Phi Mu's Founders felt so strongly about philanthropic activities that the first line in the Phi Mu Creed reads, "To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand." These words aren't just clever prose, they're a guiding principle for Phi Mu's everywhere. The tradition is carried on today in many chapter activities
Phi Mu is the only sorority to be a corporate sponsor of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals(CMNH). Supporting 170 CMN hospitals nationwide, Phi Mus across the country have raised $1.8 million in just this year, improving the quality of life for children everywhere. In addition to raising funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Phi Mu's also volunteer countless hours of volunteer work at area hospitals. Click here for more information. The Kappa Alpha chapter of Phi Mu proudly supports LeBonheur Children's Medical Center as their primary Children's Miracle Network hospital. Each year, Phi Mu Kappa Alpha raises over $30,000 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and LeBonheur Hospital. Le Bonheur opened its doors in Memphis, Tennessee on June 15, 1952. Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center is a not-for-profit, comprehensive, regional medical center providing 225 patient beds and 45 medical subspecialties. Each year, Le Bonheur treats nearly 130,000 children. Click here for more information (www.lebonheur.org)

We have had 12 girls go to Orlando, Florida to Disney World, to run in the Disney Princess Half Marathon that benefited Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
For the past three years, our members have had the amazing opportunity to visit Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. Here, we visit the hospital staff and hand out stuffed animals and other goodies to the patients. Our members love seeing the impact all of our fundraising has on such an amazing place.
Phi Mu’s international philanthropy is Show Mercy International, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering communities in Uganda through medical care, education, and sustainable development. By supporting Show Mercy, Phi Mu sisters extend their impact beyond local borders, helping to provide essential resources like clean water, healthcare, and schooling to children and families in need. As a chapter, Phi Mu sponsors two children. Phi Mu has also had many girls go on mission trips with Show Mercy in Uganda. Some members even individually sponsor children through Show Mercy. Phi Mu members actively contribute to Show Mercy’s vision of bringing hope and transformation to vulnerable communities. This partnership reflects Phi Mu’s dedication to service and compassion on a global scale.
Philanthropy is a core value of Phi Mu, and sisters take great pride in hosting creative and impactful events throughout the year to support their causes. These events bring the campus and local community together while raising funds and awareness for both local and international philanthropies. Some favorite traditions include Churros for Children, a sweet treat fundraiser; Mu Orleans Beignets, a New Orleans-inspired event serving warm beignets; and the Carnation Classic Golf Tournament, which brings together alumni, family, and friends for a day on the green. Other popular events include Cheesin’ for the Children, a grilled cheese night, and Fraternity Feud, a fun game-show-style competition among campus fraternities. Each event not only supports meaningful causes but also strengthens sisterhood and community engagement.
In addition to Children's Miracle Network and LeBonheur Children's Medical Center, the Kappa Alpha chapter is also very involved in the Starkville area community. You will find members participating in service projects such as visiting nursing homes, the humane society, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys and Girls Club. Many members tutor elementary children at Sudduth Elementary School after school. We are also partnered with the Starkville Salvation Army and have members over there every single day volunteering their time to those in need. A total of 3,400 hours have been done this year alone.
